Ceramic Flooring Tiles - What is it?
Ceramic tile is made of clay and shale that has been baked and hardened in a kiln.
Tiles can be:
- glazed (with fused facial finish)
- have a surface that provides colour, design and ease of maintenance
- greater range of colours
- more resistant to stains
- unglazed (with no surface glaze):
- colour produced from the tile's composition and added pigments
- better to wear
- more slip-retardant because of the natural surface.
There are 4 types of ceramic tiles (depends on the clay composition in combination with the firing process, and whether the tile is glazed or unglazed):
- glazed ceramic
- quarry
- porcelain
- terracotta
